Newbridge Academy is very excited to be returning to the ECEL for the 2017-2018 season at both the U16 and U18 levels. Newbridge joined the league last season and it added a very strong component to both team’s schedules. “It was an easy decision for us to return to such a great league again this season" said Matt Anthony, U18 Head Coach.  "The level of play is fantastic and the league is also very highly scouted, and that exposure is huge for our student-athletes at Newbridge”.

The Newbridge U16 will be comprised of all 2002 birthday’s and will ice a very competitive team. Head Coach, Olivier Filion, is confident that his team will build on last year’s results: “We had a good season last year, but we are looking to improve upon those results. We have added some new exciting, and very talented players to our lineup; I can’t wait to get things started!”

Among those players are notables: Alexandre David (Pigeon Hill, New Brunswick), who is a highly skilled centreman and one of the top ranked prospects in all of Eastern Canada; Nicholas Savoie (Dieppe, New Brunswick), who is already on NCAA radars and is one of the top 2002 defencemen in Eastern Canada; and Ethan Pearson (Fredericton, New Brunswick), who is one of the top 2002 goaltenders in Eastern Canada. There are also many other great players sprinkled throughout the lineup. On the U18 side, Head Coach Matt Anthony echoed Filions comments: “I am excited about our group this season. We will be looking to build on last year and put together an even better season.” The lone returning forward from last season is Alberto Pison (Copenhagen, Denmark), and he is a highly gifted offensive threat who will be counted on to lead the offence. Other notable players are Kurtis Lang (Hubbards, Nova Scotia), Christopher Piche (Ferme-Neuve, Quebec), and Matt Duggan (Stillwater Lake, Nova Scotia), who were all members of last season’s ECEL All-Star teams, and all have aspirations of playing NCAA hockey.

Overall, both Newbridge teams are ecstatic about the upcoming ECEL season and look forward to rekindling old rivalries as well as meeting new teams.
