Guilford, Conn. - Former New Jersey Titans U18 forward Alex Konovalov has decided to stay home and play his college hockey at Princeton University.

“Extremely honored and very excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 college hockey at Princeton University. Thank you to all of my family, friends, teammates and coaches for their continuous support. Can’t wait to be in Orange and Black!” the announcement read.

Konovalov played one season in the ECEL and averaged over a point per game putting up 14 points across 10 games. He almost scored an average of one goal per game, tallying eight goals across 10 games last year. “He’s a very dynamic player, probably one of the most dynamic players last year. When you look at his stats, you see he’s been a scorer at every level, and it continued in our league last year,” said President Peter Alden.

When asked about his development in the Jr. Titans organization and the ECEL, Alex stated:

“The Titans and George Haviland helped guide my development from youth hockey to the junior ranks. Being able to consistently practice and play with the NAHL team throughout my U16 and U18 seasons enable me to get a feel for junior hockey. Playing against teams from all around the country also allowed me to experience different styles of play as well as compete against other talented players and teams on a weekly basis. The ladder of development within the organization served as a constant motivator to progress and develop both on and off the ice. I’m really thankful for the time that I spent as a Red Bucket because it allowed me to not only develop as a hockey player, but also create many new and lasting memories.”

After the Fall Classic last year in Walpole, Mass, his recruiting began to heat up. The strategic location of the league has been crucial to players being able to get on the radar of scouts at the next level. "Playing college hockey is a goal of a lot of players in this league, and this league allows for players to be seen by a lot of different schools," said Peter Alden.

George Haviland, President/Director of Players for the New Jersey Titans had this to say about Alex:

“When I first met Alex, I thought to myself, ‘Wow, there is a kid that we can help sort it out through our Titans culture.’ He is a super talented, very humble player through both his academic and hockey commitment and his hard work has paid off! From the opportunities provided to him by the NJ Titans and the leagues he played in (AYHL, ECEL, NAPHL), he was quick to rise to the top, being a leader on all the teams he played for over his 3 midget years in the Titans youth program and then finished his Titan career on our NAHL team. He has earned the right to play NCAA D1 hockey and get a great education at Princeton University. The New Jersey Titans and me personally are very honored that Alex was a committed, loyal Titan and has earned his way to Princeton. We wish him all the best.”

Konovalov has been playing for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL. He has been a very productive player this season for the Lumberjacks, totaling 13 points in 17 games.

He will enter Princeton next year as a freshman, looking to help reproduce some of the offense that the team lost last year when they lost three of the best players in program history.
