Hill Academy & New Hampshire Monarchs Take Titles!

New Haven, CT - The East Coast Elite League (ECEL) playoffs were action packed this weekend with overtime victories, shootouts and champions!   All the ECEL 18U and 16U members participated in the playoffs, January 29-31, 2016 at the Tri-Town Arena in Hooksett, NH.  The weekend was filled with scouts that included coaches/scouts from Boston University, University of New Hampshire, Merrimack College, University of Maine, University of Connecticut, Bentley College, Boston Bruins (NHL), St Louis Blues (NHL), NHLPA, Sioux City Muskateers (USHL), Penticton Viper (BCHL) and more!

The 2016 ECEL Championship Series came to a close on Sunday afternoon with two new Champions being crowned in each of the two Divisions. In the first afternoon game, the New Hampshire Monarchs won their first ever 18U Championship with a 5-0 win over the The Hill Academy. In the second afternoon game, the Hill Academy pulled off their second ECEL Championship as they defeated New Hampshire Monarchs 2-1 to win the 16U title.

18U Division: NH Monarchs 5 vs The Hill Academy 0 – The fireworks began early in the 18U Championship game as the NH Monarchs scored early and never looked back!  The Championship is the first for the NH Monarchs 18U team and first ECEL championship for the NH Monarchs program.

16U Division: The Hill Academy 2 vs. NH Monarchs 1 –  Things looked good for The Hill Academy all game until the NH Monarchs came charging back to tie the game 1-1. The The Hill Academy scored late in the second half to bring the score 2-1.  The  NH Monarchs got a power play late in the final seconds of the game but The Hill Academy put up a brick wall and contained the fire power from the Monarchs to close out the game.  This is the second ECEL championship for Head Coach, Doug Orr and The Hill Academy!
