Guest Teams to Test ECEL Members at the
Holiday Classic in Connecticut
The East Coast Elite League Holiday Classic, the second stop of the League’s 2018-19 regular-season showcase series, will feature three guest programs that will challenge the best of what the 10 participating ECEL members have to offer at the U15, U16, and U18 levels.
Entering teams at each age group in ECEL Holiday Classic will be the Esmark Stars of western Pennsylvania, while the Colorado Rampage of Monument, Colorado, will be represented by two teams, and the Long Island Royals of King Park, New York, will feature one.
The Esmark Stars are a premier member of the North American Prospects League (NAPHL), competing in the league's top High Performance Division. The 18U Esmark Stars squad will take the ice at the Holiday Classic with a current overall record of 21-8-1 and a top 30 ranking in the USA. The elder Stars are led by forward Tyler Stewart, who averages 1.25 points per game with 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists) in 12 NAHL contests. A close second is forward Matsvei Kurylovich with 6 goals and 12 points, while goaltender Danny Mitchell owns a perfect 6-0-0 NAHL record with a 1.33 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.
Forward Ryder Brophy paces the U16 Esmark club with a dozen points (7 goals, 5 assists) in a dozen games, while the squad is backstopped by goalie Connor Strobel (2.76 GAA). Meanwhile, the U15 Stars share the same success as the U16 club and are led by forward Conall Quish’s 7 goals and 10 points. Netminder Nathan Dickey has notched four victories behind a .917 save percentage.
The Colorado Rampage U18 club heads east this weekend boasting a 16-6-0 overall mark and sitting at the top of the Tier 1 Elite League. Forwards Braden Cooper and Ty Black power the Rampage with 18 points apiece, while goaltender Jackson Broussard owns a 7-1-0 record with a 1.75 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.
Miles McCue leads the U16 Rampage with 5 goals in 10 games, while fellow forward Trevor Zimmer has posted a team-best 10 points in as many contests during Tier 1 Elite Hockey League play. Meanwhile, Colorado goalie Kannon Flageolle owns a respectable .909 save percentage for the 3-7-0 Rampage.
Rounding out the guest clubs are the U16 Long Island Royals, who are contending for first place in both the Long Island Amateur League and Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL). Forward Austin Meyers’ 16 points leads the club scoring, while forward Robert Hyde has netted a team-high 9 goals. With a 2.72 goals-against average and .924 save percentage, goaltender Quinten Laurentino will be relied on to stifle Long Island’s four ECEL opponents this weekend.
The three-day ECEL Holiday Classic will be held at Northford Ice Pavilion in Northford, Connecticut, and East Haven Ice Rink in East Haven, Connecticut. The League’s showcase series is designed to provide top competition and exposure for the elite teams and organizations throughout North America. The League’s 12 members compete in four weekend showcases, which culminates with league playoffs in February 2019.
